July 29, 2006 - Eastern Region Waterski Show

Jumping Jack's in Scotia on the Mohawk River was the locale for the water ski competition. Jumping Jack's is, of course, THE local place for great burgers, fish fries, and ice cream, Four groups from around the Northeast competed and we enjoyed the beauty, grace, and athleticism of the performers. And great colorful costumes! We enjoyed the show and talking with folks from New Jersey who competed on a team.

Grease at Washington Park Playhouse - July 26,2007

What a great evening! We went to beautiful Washington Park in Albany, NY to see the musical, Grease, at the Park Playhouse. We met another Red Hat group at the Park ( Mary S.'s other group), and enjoyed the summer weather before the show as we shared both their picnic foods as well what we brought.... shrimp, fried chicken, mac salad hummus and crackers and much more.
The show was terrific and the performances were stellar. Grease is, of course, set in our era so it was even more fun. And the price was right - free!

Menopause, The Musical July 6, 2007

This show was meant for us!!!! With each song, we related to the misery and laughed till our sides hurt (except for Mitzi who says she never had any of these things!) I'm not sure whether I related most to the night sweats, hot flashes, memory lapses, weight gain, depression...... We all joined the cast on the stage at the end to celebrate our victory over the change and our commitment to enjoy life to the fullest!!! After the show, we enjoyed a drink at a nearby outside cafe and were joined by a bachelorette party for pictures..... It seems like we always draw attention to ourselves in regalia!!!!

The Lipstick Lovelies - June 30, 2007

The Lipstick Lovelies are a modern burlesque troupe who perform around the area, but often at the Lark Tavern in Albany, NY. We dined there before the show (quite tasty and good beer) to get a ring side seat..... And thanks to Patti B, we had our HUGE red wax lips special for the show. As a group, we got exceptional treatment at the Lark and they even took our picture to put on their web site. What an experience!!! It was hilarious, and bawdy, and a bit lewd a times and we all enjoyed the middle aged couple seated nearby - the wife clearly disapproved the whole evening and her husband clearly enjoyed the show!!!!

Story Telling at the Glen Sanders Mansion

Most of us have before heard of or attended a story telling event. But monthly, the Capital Region Storytelling group has a dinner with multiple storytellers providing the entertainment and we attend the 5/20/07 event. The Glen Sanders is always wonderful and this night was no exception. And there were four ( I think) stories told by the speakers.... They kept our attention and made us smile and laugh a little. Story telling is really an art to do exceptionally well!

National Red Hat Day luncheon 4/25/07

On the occasion of the birthday of the Exalted Queen Mother Sue Ellen, we celebrate National Red Hat Day at a swap meet luncheon held in Albany with about 125 of our sisters. Again we recite the Red hat vows with our hands on our hats and participate in a kazoo parade. But we can hardly wait to check out ( and purchase) precious Red hat merchandise brought by merchants and attendees. I, of course, get another hat from Betty who makes such great chapeaus and yet another from Patti in our group who has gotten a few too many! Most of us "score" with great bargains (especially the hat pins).... and a good time was had by all!

Trivia night at Pinhead Susan's - April 17, 2007

Our Red Hat chapter decided we could be trivia pros and took on the challenge at Pinhead Susan's weekly trivia contest. Well, we were real good on the Seven Dwarf's, but not so good on Pearl Jam. So, we cheated a little bit (all in good fun) and teamed up with a nearby group of Union college engineering students who were great on Pearl Jam, but not so good on the Seven Dwarfs and old time baseball players. Anyway, with our help, they won and we had a great time.

Murder on the Range April 15, 2007

Once again despite the unseasonal snowy weather, murder is in the room. At the Rotterdam Elks, we join about 80 Red Hatters as we become deputy Texas Rangers to solve another murder. Matt and his repetoire players present a lively, funny, and twisted tale of murder between the courses of our luncheon. Our luck with door prizes has improved, however, and several of us take home remembrances of our murder adventure. Betty Parker of the Spindle City Divas has brought several "over the top" hats, and I, of course, have to have one with "horsehair"! But I am not alone in hat purchases!

PJ Breakfast with the Spindle City Divas

February, 2007 finds us in Cohoes, NY at a spectacular PJ breakfast sponsored by Spindle City Divas. For many of us, it was our first PJ breakfast, and we looked simply splendid in our PJ's and nightcaps!!! After seriously taking the Red Hat vows with our right hands on our hats, and a kazoo parade, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at lunch time and then laughed uproariously with the "talent" acts of our sister groups. With many terrific door prizes, table 12 jeered ruthlessly as we only won the last prize - but we cheered our winning sisters!

Christmas at the Tory Tavern

Our Christmas celebration was an elegant five course dinner at the George Mann Tory Tavern in Schoharie, NY. In a refined atmosphere with baroque music playing and Vistorian costumed servers, we enjoyed a terrific meal with appropriate liquid libations, and spent the evening in our Red and Purple splendor with loads of laughter.

Double M Ranch Rodeo and Haunted Hay Ride

Slowly our numbers began to grow. In August, we traveled all the way to Ballston Spa for the Double M Rodeo - and enjoyed the handsome cowboys. In October, our group braved the nippy evening as we enjoyed the Haunted Halloween Hayride.... we all laughed so hard and enjoyed witch's brew.... and desserts at the Glenville diner on the way home ( a girl does need to eat!)

The beginnings of The Rowdy Scarletts

In May, 2006, a group of six ladies gathered to establish a chapter of the Red Hat Society to meet and have fun with other women in our area. After a brainstorming session and lots of laughter, we decided we were the "Rowdy Scarletts" hoping it would convey a fun-loving, adventurous and outrageous spirit of our group.
At first, we remained small in numbers, but large in spirit as we conquered the Albany Aqua-Duck in the Hudson and braved wearing our Red hat regalia to the Comedy Works. We became crime fighters in the Moonshine Murder Mystery in June with Elinore being the top detective astutely solving the crime; At Saratoga Polo in July, we enjoyed our picnic match and "Little Donna" winning third prize in the Hat contest; We mastered both mini-golf and ice cream at the Airport Mini-golf Park; We went to a Hot Air Balloon festival in Massachusetts, but missed the balloons because of too much wind - but we ate well.
